HSAC Executive Leadership
- Los Angeles County Sheriff Leroy D. Baca commands the world's largest Sheriff's department with over 13,000 sworn and civilian personnel, and was first elected Sheriff in 1998. Sheriff Baca was sworn into the LASD in 1965, appointed Captain in 1981 to command Norwalk Station, promoted to Commander of numerous stations and the Aero and Special Enforcement Bureaus, and promoted to Chief in 1992. As Chief of the Court Services Division, Sheriff Baca directed the strategy that led to the merger of the Sheriff's Department with the Marshal's Department, saving taxpayers $14 million per year, and Sheriff Baca received the Department's Distinguished Service award. Sheriff Baca serves on the Board of Directors for several philanthropic organizations, and serves on the Board of Governors of the USC Alumni Association. He has been honored by numerous nonprofit organizations and elected officials for his outstanding service to the public. In 1993, Sheriff Baca earned a Doctorate of Public Administration from the University of Southern California.
- Co-Chairman Marc B. Nathanson is Chairman of Mapleton Investments and Mapleton Communications, which owns and operates 26 radio stations in the western U.S. Mr. Nathanson is a cable television pioneer and currently serves as Vice Chairman of Paul Allen's Charter Communications, the nation's third largest cable TV operator. Mr. Nathanson was appointed by Presidents Clinton and Bush as Chairman of the U.S. Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), which oversees all non-military international communications, such as the Voice of America. He was appointed by the Governor to serve on the California Anti-Terrorism Information Center Executive Advisory Board (CATIC), and serves as Chairman of the Board of USC's Center for the Digital Future and on the Boards of USC's Annenberg School of Communications, Los Angeles Philharmonic and Skirball Cultural Center and UCLA Anderson School of Management and RAND Graduate School. He also is on the Board and Executive Committee of the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) and co-chairs the Aspen Institute's Forum on Communications & Society.
- Co-Chairman Donald R. Sheetz is Chairman of the Sheetz Group, a real estate, fiduciary, and aviation consulting firm that procures and sells corporate turbine aircraft worldwide. Mr. Sheetz' entrepreneurial background includes the development and brokerage of residential real estate and asset management. Active in governmental, charitable and civic affairs, he was appointed by Governor Davis to the California Board of Corrections, which administers the largest correctional system in the world. He was the former Chairman of the Orange County Sheriff's Department Professional Services Reserve Leadership Cabinet, and is a Board member of numerous philanthropic and business organizations including the Center for Unconventional Security Affairs at the University of California, Irvine (CUSA) and the Alexandria Times. Mr. Sheetz has received various distinguished honors for outstanding public service.
